Campanula glomerata 'Alba' – Planting & Care Guide

About Campanula glomerata 'Alba'

Campanula glomerata 'Alba', commonly known as White Clustered Bellflower, is a charming herbaceous perennial admired for its clusters of pure white, star-shaped bell flowers that bloom throughout early and mid-summer. The elegant flowers are held in dense clusters on sturdy upright stems above attractive green foliage, creating a fresh and timeless display in borders and cottage gardens.

Growing to approximately 40–60cm tall with a spread of 30–45cm, 'Alba' forms neat clumps that gradually spread to create an attractive drift of flowers. The nectar-rich blooms are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinating insects, making this variety an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly gardens. Its upright habit and crisp white flowers also make it an excellent cut flower for indoor arrangements.

Planting Guide

  • Plant in full sun or partial shade.
  • Prefers a position with morning sun and light afternoon shade in warmer areas.
  • Grows best in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil.
  • Suitable for loam, sandy and clay soils with good drainage.
  • Improve poor soils by incorporating compost or well-rotted organic matter before planting.
  • Dig a planting hole twice the width of the root ball and the same depth.
  • Carefully remove the plant from its container and gently loosen the roots.
  • Position the crown level with the surrounding soil surface.
  • Backfill with soil, firm gently and water thoroughly.
  • Apply a 5–8cm layer of organic mulch around the base to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Space plants approximately 35–45cm apart.

Care & Maintenance

Campanula glomerata 'Alba' is a reliable, low-maintenance perennial.
