Overview & Features

• Cistus ‘Alan Fradd’ is a compact evergreen shrub grown for its large, bright white flowers.

• Produces striking white blooms with prominent deep maroon blotches at the base of each petal.

• Flowers appear in late spring to early summer and are borne freely in sunny conditions.

• Each flower lasts for a single day, but the plant produces many in succession.

• Features narrow, aromatic grey-green foliage.

• Forms a low, spreading mound with a neat, rounded habit.

• Typically grows 60–100 cm tall and up to 1.2 metres wide.

• Ideal for Mediterranean-style gardens, gravel beds, and coastal planting.

This variety is prized for its bold flower markings and drought tolerance.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant in full sun for best flowering performance.

• Requires well-drained soil and dislikes heavy, wet conditions.

• Thrives in sandy, gravelly, or moderately poor soils.

• Avoid rich or overly fertile soils, which can reduce flowering.

• Not suitable for areas prone to winter waterlogging.

• Dig a hole twice as wide as the rootball and the same depth.

• Plant at the same depth as it was in the container and firm gently.

• Suitable for coastal and sheltered exposed locations with good drainage.

Cistus performs best in warm, sunny, free-draining sites.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots.

• Once established, plants are highly drought tolerant.

• Avoid overwatering, especially during winter.

• Feed lightly in spring only if soil is very poor.

• Excess feeding encourages leafy growth at the expense of flowers.

• Flowering typically occurs from late spring into early summer.

• Full sun ensures the heaviest flower production.

Sharp drainage and sunlight are essential for healthy growth and flowering.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a compact shape.

• Avoid cutting back into old woody stems, as regrowth can be poor.

• Remove any dead or damaged growth as needed.

• Mulch lightly with gravel to improve drainage around the base.

• Protect from severe frost and prolonged winter wet in colder areas.

• Generally low maintenance when grown in suitable conditions.

All standard deliveries will be completed within 5-7 working days via Fastway Couriers, any delay to this delivery time, the customer will be notified by One of our staff.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
