Planting Conditions and Ideal Location

• Light Requirements: Needs full sun to flower well and maintain a compact, bushy shape. A sunny location ensures maximum blooming.

• Soil Preferences: Grows best in well-drained soils—sandy, gravelly, or light loam are ideal. Tolerates poor, stony ground and thrives where other plants may struggle.

• pH Range: Tolerates slightly acidic to neutral soils (pH 6.0–7.5).

• Moisture Needs: Highly drought-tolerant once established; avoid areas prone to waterlogging.

• Planting Time: Plant in spring or early autumn, giving roots time to settle before extremes of heat or cold.

• Spacing: Allow 1–1.2 metres between plants to give them space to spread naturally.

• Positioning Tips: Excellent for Mediterranean borders, gravel gardens, rockeries, sunny slopes, and coastal planting.

• Shelter Needs: Hardy but performs best in a sheltered site, protected from cold, drying winter winds.

• Companion Planting: Looks beautiful alongside lavender, rosemary, santolina, thyme, and ornamental grasses in low-water landscapes.

Routine Care, Feeding, and Seasonal Maintenance

• Watering:

  • Water regularly in the first season to help roots establish.

  • Once mature, water only during prolonged dry periods.

• Feeding: A light application of balanced fertilizer in spring will promote healthy growth and flowering. Avoid heavy feeding as this can reduce bloom quality.

• Pruning:

  • Lightly trim immediately after flowering to encourage fresh growth and keep a tidy shape.

  • Avoid cutting back into old, woody stems as they may not reshoot.

• Mulching: Use a gravel mulch around the base to keep weeds down, improve drainage, and reflect heat. Avoid heavy organic mulches that retain too much moisture.

• Pest and Disease Resistance: Largely pest- and disease-free; main risk is root rot if grown in poorly drained conditions.

• Winter Care: Hardy in most areas with good drainage. In colder or wetter regions, plant in raised beds or on slopes to improve water runoff and reduce frost damage.

• Propagation: Best propagated from semi-ripe cuttings in late summer.

• Foliage: Dense, small, evergreen grey-green leaves provide year-round texture and a soft background for its flowers.

• Flowers: Masses of pure white blooms with bright yellow centres appear from late spring through midsummer. Each flower lasts only a day but is quickly replaced by new ones, giving a long display.

• Fragrance: Foliage has a mild, resinous scent, especially on warm days.

• Wildlife Benefits: Nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it ideal for wildlife-friendly planting schemes.

• Garden Design Uses:

  • Excellent for Mediterranean-style gardens and dry borders.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
