• Plant Type: Evergreen to semi-evergreen shrub valued for its fragrant blooms and attractive form.

• Growth Habit: Dense, bushy growth reaching around 1.2–1.5 metres in height and spread at maturity.

• Foliage: Glossy, leathery, deep green leaves that remain attractive throughout the year, providing structure and colour even in winter.

• Flowers: Produces clusters of small, star-shaped, deep pink to purplish-pink flowers with a sweet, heady fragrance.

• Blooming Season: Often flowers from late winter to early spring, with occasional repeat blooming in mild conditions.

• Fragrance: Strong, sweet perfume that carries well in the garden, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

• Ornamental Appeal: Combines year-round foliage, winter fragrance, and compact form—ideal for smaller spaces or feature planting.

Planting Conditions and Ideal Location

• Soil Preferences: Requires well-drained, fertile soil enriched with organic matter.

• pH Range: Prefers neutral to slightly acidic soils (pH 6.0–7.0).

• Moisture Needs: Requires consistently moist soil—avoid both drying out and waterlogging.

• Planting Time: Plant in spring or early autumn for the best root establishment before seasonal extremes.

• Spacing: Allow 1–1.2 metres between plants to accommodate mature spread and ensure good air circulation.

• Shelter Needs: Benefits from a sheltered site protected from strong winds and excessive winter wet.

• Container Growing: Excellent in large pots with free-draining, humus-rich compost—perfect for patios or courtyard gardens.

Routine Care, Feeding, and Seasonal Maintenance

• Watering:

  • Maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods.

  • Container-grown plants will need more frequent watering than those in the ground.

• Feeding: Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring to encourage healthy growth and strong flowering.

• Pruning:

  • Requires minimal pruning—lightly trim after flowering to maintain shape and remove any damaged or dead stems.

  • Avoid heavy pruning into old wood, as this can hinder regrowth.

• Mulching: Apply a 5 cm mulch layer of compost, leaf mould, or fine bark in spring to help retain moisture and suppress weeds. Keep mulch a few centimetres from the crown to prevent rot.

• Pest and Disease Resistance: Generally pest-free but prone to root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soil.

• Winter Care: Hardy in most regions, but young plants may benefit from additional winter protection in very cold or exposed locations.

• Weed Control: Keep the root area free from weeds to reduce competition and root disturbance.

• Longevity: Long-lived if planted in the right location and left largely undisturbed—Daphnes dislike being moved once established.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
