Delphinium Highlander ‘Cha Cha’ is a stunning, herbaceous perennial from the Highlander Series, bred for its dense, fully double blooms, improved branching, and robust garden performance. ‘Cha Cha’ stands out with rich lilac-pink to lavender flowers, each petal delicately outlined in white, forming large, ruffled rosettes on strong upright stems.

Unlike traditional single-flowered delphiniums, the Highlander series—including ‘Cha Cha’—offers multiple sturdy stems and blooms that resemble fluffy, peony-like spires, delivering visual drama with fewer staking requirements. The plant typically grows to 90–120 cm in height, making it an ideal choice for mid-border placement, cut flower beds, and cottage garden displays.

With its long flowering season and strong stems, ‘Cha Cha’ is well suited for gardens that need romantic colour, height, and wildlife value without the extreme height of classic Pacific hybrids.

Growing Conditions and Maintenance

Delphinium ‘Highlander Cha Cha’ requires a sunny, sheltered position in rich, well-drained soil. While it is less prone to flopping than taller types, some light support and regular care will enhance its performance and longevity.

• Light Requirements:

  • Prefers full sun, though will tolerate partial shade in hotter climates

  • Shelter from strong winds to prevent stem damage

• Soil Preferences:

  • Requires deep, fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter

  • Performs best in neutral to slightly alkaline pH

  • Avoid wet, compacted, or poorly draining soils

• Watering Needs:

  • Water consistently, especially during dry spells

  • Keep the soil evenly moist—not soggy

  • Mulch in spring to help retain moisture and reduce weed competition

• Feeding:

  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring and again after the first flowering

  • A high-potash feed (like tomato fertiliser) boosts flower production

• Deadheading and Pruning:

  • Deadhead promptly after flowering to encourage a second flush

  • Remove spent flower stems to base once flowering is finished

  • Cut back entire plant to the base in autumn or early spring

• Staking:

  • May need light staking or grow-through supports, especially in exposed sites

  • Staking early in the season helps avoid breakage as stems elongate

• Winter Care:

  • Hardy in Zones 4–7 (RHS H5–H6)

  • Mulch in late autumn for root protection

  • Avoid crown rot by ensuring good drainage through winter

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
