Description and Characteristics

Delphinium Magic Fountain ‘White’ is a compact, elegant variety of the classic delphinium, bred for shorter stature, strong stems, and refined floral display. It produces tall, stately spires of pure white semi-double flowers, sometimes with a delicate pale green or cream centre ("bee"), rising above lush, deeply lobed green foliage.

Unlike the taller Pacific hybrids, the Magic Fountain series stays more manageable in height—90–120 cm tall—making it perfect for smaller gardens, windy sites, and mid-border plantings where full-sized delphiniums might require too much support.

Blooming from early to mid-summer, with a possible second flush in late summer if cut back after flowering, ‘White’ adds vertical elegance and brightness to borders and is also excellent as a cut flower for arrangements.

Growing Conditions and Maintenance

Delphinium Magic Fountain ‘White’ is easy to grow with proper sun, soil, and seasonal care. It performs best with fertile, moist, well-drained soil and shelter from strong winds to protect its flower spikes.

• Light Requirements:

  • Prefers full sun, though tolerates partial shade in hot summers

  • Best in a sheltered location to avoid wind damage

• Soil Preferences:

  • Requires rich, well-drained soil, preferably neutral to slightly alkaline

  • Improve poor soils with compost or well-rotted manure

  • Avoid waterlogged sites, which increase the risk of crown rot

• Watering Needs:

  • Water regularly to keep soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells

  • Mulch in spring to retain moisture and reduce weeds

• Feeding:

  • Feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring

  • Use a high-potash liquid feed (e.g., tomato fertiliser) after the first flush to encourage rebloom

• Deadheading and Pruning:

  • Cut back flower stems after blooming to the base for a second flush

  • Remove spent or damaged foliage to maintain plant health

  • Cut back all growth to ground level in autumn or early spring

• Staking:

  • While shorter than many delphiniums, staking is still advised in exposed locations

  • Use discreet bamboo canes or grow-through supports

• Winter Care:

  • Hardy in Zones 3–7 (RHS H7)

  • Apply mulch around the crown in late autumn for added root protection

  • Avoid soggy soil conditions in winter to prevent rot

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
