Overview and Features

Digiplexis 'Illumination Raspberry' is an award-winning hybrid perennial known for its bold, exotic-looking spires of raspberry-pink flowers with fiery orange throats. It is a cross between Digitalis (foxglove) and Isoplexis (a Canary Island native), combining the best of both worlds: the architectural form of foxgloves with longer bloom time and increased heat tolerance.

This plant produces dense flower spikes on strong, upright stems, reaching heights of 60–90 cm, often blooming from late spring into autumn with proper care. Its lush green foliage forms a neat basal clump, from which flower spikes arise continuously throughout the season.

‘Illumination Raspberry’ is perfect for adding drama and vertical interest to sunny borders, containers, and pollinator gardens. Though not fully hardy in colder regions, it is often grown as a tender perennial or annual in more temperate zones.

Growing Conditions and Maintenance

Digiplexis is relatively easy to grow if provided with the right conditions—sun, warmth, and good drainage are key.

• Light Requirements:

  • Requires full sun for strong flowering

  • Can tolerate light shade, especially in warmer climates

• Soil Preferences:

  • Prefers well-drained, fertile soil

  • Avoid heavy, wet, or clay-based soils

  • Ideal in raised beds, borders, or large containers

• Watering:

  • Keep soil moist but not waterlogged

  • Water regularly during dry spells

  • In containers, ensure proper drainage to avoid root rot

• Feeding:

  • Feed with a balanced, liquid fertiliser every 2–3 weeks during the growing season

  • A spring application of slow-release fertiliser can also support growth

• Pruning and Maintenance:

  • Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering and encourage fresh blooms

  • Cut back spent flower spikes to the base

  • In cooler regions, lift and overwinter indoors or treat as an annual

‘Illumination Raspberry’ delivers tropical-like impact in the garden and is especially useful for summer displays, dramatic borders, and pollinator-friendly beds.

  • May suffer from crown rot in poorly drained soils

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
