• Common Name: Viveleg Oleaster, Silverberry ‘Viveleg’

• Plant Type: Evergreen ornamental shrub.

• Origin: A cultivated variety of the hybrid Elaeagnus × ebbingei, bred for its striking variegated foliage and resilience.

• Growth Habit: Dense, upright to rounded form with a naturally bushy habit, reaching 2–3 metres tall and wide.

• Foliage: Leathery, oval leaves with vibrant green centres, broad creamy-yellow margins, and silvery undersides—creating year-round brightness in the garden.

• Flowers: Tiny, creamy-white, tubular blooms appear in autumn, highly fragrant and a delight for pollinators.

• Fruit: Small, red-orange berries in spring, adding ornamental and wildlife value.

• Fragrance: Sweet, intense perfume from flowers in autumn.

• Garden Uses: Excellent for hedging, screening, mixed borders, or as a feature shrub. Its variegation makes it a stand-out specimen.

Planting Conditions and Ideal Location

• Light Requirements: Best in full sun to partial shade; tolerates more shade than many variegated plants, but colours are brightest in good light.

• Soil Preferences: Adaptable to a wide range of soils, from sandy to clay, provided they are well-drained.

• pH Range: Tolerates slightly acidic to alkaline soils (pH 6.0–8.0).

• Moisture Needs: Moderate watering needs; drought-tolerant once mature.

• Planting Time: Best planted in spring or autumn to allow root establishment before heat or frost.

• Spacing: For hedges, plant 1–1.2 metres apart; as a specimen, give it 2–3 metres of space.

• Shelter Needs: Tolerates wind and salt spray, making it excellent for coastal gardens.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
