Routine Care, Feeding, and Seasonal Maintenance
-
Watering:
-
Water regularly during the first year to establish strong roots.
-
Once mature, only water during prolonged dry spells.
-
-
Feeding: Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring to support healthy foliage and flower production.
-
Pruning:
-
Trim lightly after flowering to encourage bushy growth and maintain a neat shape.
-
Avoid cutting into old wood, as regrowth may be slow.
-
-
Mulching: Add a 5 cm layer of organic mulch around the base each spring to help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
-
Pest and Disease Resistance: Generally resistant to most common pests and diseases; watch for aphids and treat if needed.
-
Winter Care: Fully hardy; no special protection required, though young plants may benefit from a mulch layer over the root zone in colder regions.
-
Weed Control: Keep the base weed-free to reduce competition for water and nutrients.
-
Longevity: Long-lasting and low-maintenance, rewarding with vibrant colour and seasonal flowers for many years.
