Planting Conditions and Ideal Location

• Light Requirements: Prefers full sun to partial shade. Full sun brings out the brightest golden tones in the foliage, while partial shade prevents scorching in intense summer heat.

• Soil Preferences: Grows in a wide range of well-drained soils, including sandy, loamy, and light clay soils.

• pH Range: Tolerates slightly acidic to slightly alkaline soils (pH 6.0–7.5).

• Moisture Needs: Likes moderate moisture levels but is drought-tolerant once established. Avoid prolonged soggy conditions.

• Planting Time: Best planted in spring or early autumn for strong root development before summer heat or winter cold.

• Spacing: Space 45–60 cm apart for groundcover planting; allow more room for individual specimen growth.

• Positioning Tips: Works beautifully as groundcover, low hedging, edging, or in containers. Also suitable for walls and fences if allowed to climb.

• Shelter Needs: Hardy and wind-tolerant; excellent for coastal and urban locations.

• Container Growing: Perfect for pots, window boxes, and hanging baskets where it can trail attractively over the edges.

Routine Care, Feeding, and Seasonal Maintenance

• Watering:

  • Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish roots.

  • Once mature, water only in extended dry spells.

  • In containers, water more frequently in hot, dry weather.

• Feeding: Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring to encourage healthy growth and vibrant foliage.

• Pruning:

  • Lightly trim in late spring or early summer to maintain shape and encourage dense growth.

  • Cut back any straggly or wayward stems as needed.

  • Can be hard-pruned to rejuvenate older plants.

• Mulching: Apply a 5 cm layer of compost, bark, or leaf mould in spring to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Keep mulch away from the base of stems.

• Pest and Disease Resistance: Highly resilient but may occasionally suffer from scale insects or powdery mildew—treat promptly if necessary.

• Winter Care: Fully hardy and evergreen; retains its foliage and colour year-round without protection.

• Weed Control: Keep the planting area weed-free to ensure optimal growth.

All standard deliveries will be completed within 5-7 working days via Fastway Couriers, any delay to this delivery time, the customer will be notified by One of our staff.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
