Planting Conditions and Ideal Location

• Light Requirements: Prefers full sun to partial shade. Full sun enhances the brightness of variegated foliage, while partial shade helps prevent leaf scorch in very hot summers.

• Soil Preferences: Grows well in most well-drained soils, including loam, sandy, and light clay types.

• pH Range: Tolerates neutral to slightly alkaline conditions (pH 6.5–7.5).

• Moisture Needs: Likes regular moisture but can withstand short dry periods once established. Avoid waterlogged soils.

• Planting Time: Best planted in spring or autumn to allow strong root growth before seasonal extremes.

• Spacing: Allow 50–80 cm for hedging or grouped planting; more space for standalone specimens.

• Positioning Tips: Suitable for hedges, mixed borders, foundation planting, and ornamental containers. Works equally well in formal and informal garden designs.

Routine Care, Feeding, and Seasonal Maintenance

• Watering:

  • Container plants will need more frequent watering, especially in warm weather.

• Feeding: Apply a balanced slow-release shrub fertilizer in spring to promote strong, healthy growth and vibrant foliage.

• Pruning:

  • Trim lightly in late spring or early summer to shape the plant and encourage dense growth.

  • For hedging, prune two or three times during the growing season to maintain neatness.

  • Remove dead or damaged stems as needed.

• Mulching: Apply a 5–8 cm mulch of compost or bark around the base each spring to conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds. Keep mulch away from the crown.

• Pest and Disease Resistance: Generally pest-free, but occasional issues with scale insects or powdery mildew may occur—treat promptly if necessary.

• Winter Care: Fully hardy and evergreen; no winter protection needed in most regions.

• Weed Control: Keep the base of the plant free from competing weeds for best growth and appearance.

All standard deliveries will be completed within 5-7 working days via Fastway Couriers, any delay to this delivery time, the customer will be notified by One of our staff.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
