    • Feed in spring with a balanced slow-release fertiliser.

    • Mulch annually to improve soil quality and keep roots cool.

  • Pruning:

    • Minimal pruning required.

    • Remove any damaged or tired leaves at the base to keep the plant fresh.

    • Can be lightly shaped in spring to maintain size.

  • Winter care:

    • Hardy, but young plants may appreciate fleece in very cold or exposed sites.

    • Keep out of strong winter winds which can damage the foliage.

Seasonal Interest & Uses

  • Foliage:

    • Large, bold, deeply lobed leaves with a glossy, exotic appearance.

    • Superb as an architectural statement in shaded gardens.

  • Flowers & berries:

    • May produce clusters of creamy-white flowers in autumn, followed by small black berries (more reliable in sheltered, mild areas).

  • Perfect for:

    • Jungle / exotic-themed gardens

    • North-facing beds and shady courtyards

    • Woodland-style plantings

    • Patio containers (large pots)

    • Pairing with ferns, hostas, heucheras, and hydrangeas for lush texture
