• Plant Type: Deciduous flowering shrub

• Origin: A hybrid cultivar bred for vibrant blooms and strong growth habit.

• Growth Habit: Upright, arching shrub reaching 1.8–2.5 metres in height and spread, with dense branching.

• Foliage: Mid- to deep-green, lance-shaped leaves appear after flowering and remain fresh through summer.

• Flowers: Abundant clusters of bright golden-yellow, bell-shaped flowers cover the bare stems in early spring (March–April), signalling the start of the gardening season.

• Seasonal Interest: Exceptional for its early spring display before most other plants awaken; lush summer foliage offers good background planting.

• Garden Uses: Excellent for mixed shrub borders, informal hedges, or as a standalone focal point in spring gardens.

Planting Conditions and Ideal Location

• Light Requirements: Best in full sun for maximum flowering, but tolerates light partial shade.

• pH Range: Neutral to slightly alkaline (pH 6.5–7.5).

• Moisture Needs: Prefers moist but well-drained conditions; avoid prolonged waterlogging.

• Planting Time: Best planted in autumn or spring while the plant is dormant or just emerging; container-grown plants can be planted at any time in mild conditions.

• Spacing: Allow 1.5–2 metres between plants for individual growth; closer spacing for hedge planting.

• Shelter Needs: Performs well in both sheltered and moderately exposed sites.

• Companion Planting: Works well with spring bulbs like tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths for a layered seasonal display.

Routine Care, Feeding, and Seasonal Maintenance

• Watering:

  • Keep well-watered in the first growing season to establish roots.

  • Once established, it is drought-tolerant but benefits from watering during extended dry spells.

• Feeding: Apply a balanced general fertiliser in early spring to encourage strong flowering and healthy foliage.

• Pruning:

  • Prune immediately after flowering; remove around one-third of the oldest stems to the base to stimulate new growth and maintain shape.

  • Lightly trim remaining stems to encourage a tidy habit and more flowers next year.

• Mulching: Apply a 5 cm mulch layer of garden compost or well-rotted manure in spring to retain moisture, improve soil quality, and suppress weeds, keeping mulch clear of stems.

• Pest and Disease Resistance: Generally free from serious pests and diseases; occasional aphids may appear but rarely require treatment.

• Winter Care: Fully hardy; no protection required, even in harsh winters.

• Weed Control: Keep the area around the base free from weeds to reduce competition for water and nutrients.

• Longevity: With correct pruning and feeding, Forsythia ‘Goldrush’ will produce spectacular floral displays year after year for decades.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
