Overview and Features

Geranium 'Pink Penny' is a beautiful and low-maintenance hardy perennial valued for its long flowering period, lush foliage, and dusky pink to salmon-pink blooms with darker veining. It is a spreading cultivar of Geranium wallichianum, ideal for adding softness, colour, and ground cover to sunny or partially shaded areas.

It features mounded, trailing growth with attractive green foliage that forms a dense mat, making it excellent for front-of-border planting, containers, or underplanting shrubs. ‘Pink Penny’ is a free-flowering variety that begins blooming in late spring and continues well into autumn, often until the first frosts.

• Masses of pink blooms with deep rose veining

• Mounding and spreading habit: 30–40 cm high x 50–70 cm spread

• Aromatic, deeply lobed foliage turns reddish in autumn

Growing Conditions and Maintenance

Geranium ‘Pink Penny’ is both reliable and easy to grow, thriving in a range of soils and garden conditions with minimal effort.

• Light Requirements:

  • Prefers full sun to partial shade

  • Flowers best with 4+ hours of sunlight daily

• Soil Preferences:

  • Grows well in moist but well-drained soil

  • Tolerates loamy, sandy, or chalky soils

  • Suitable for neutral to slightly acidic or alkaline pH

• Watering:

  • Keep evenly moist during establishment

  • Once established, becomes drought-tolerant

  • Avoid soggy conditions to prevent root rot

• Feeding:

  • Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring to support flowering

  • In containers, feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season

• Pruning and Maintenance:

  • Deadheading is not necessary—plant is self-cleaning

  • If plants become leggy in midsummer, shear back by one-third to encourage fresh foliage and more blooms

  • Cut back to ground level in late autumn or early spring

Seasonal Interest and Garden Uses

‘Pink Penny’ brings lasting colour and fine texture to mixed borders and container displays. It pairs beautifully with other perennials and adds a soft, romantic effect to planting schemes.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
