Overview and Key Characteristics
Gerbera is a striking genus of flowering plants in the Asteraceae (daisy) family, prized for its large, bright, daisy-like blooms and bold colours. Native to South Africa and Asia, Gerberas are widely cultivated in a variety of colours including red, pink, orange, yellow, white, and bi-colours. They are available in several forms such as standard, mini, and spider-flowered types.
Gerberas are typically grown as annual bedding plants, short-lived perennials, or indoor flowering houseplants, depending on the variety and climate. Newer hardy varieties can even overwinter outdoors in milder regions.

Reduce feeding in winter for indoor plants
General Care
-
Deadhead spent blooms regularly to encourage continuous flowering
-
Remove yellow or dying leaves to prevent fungal issues
-
Mulch lightly outdoors to retain soil moisture (but keep mulch away from crown)
Seasonal Tips and Overwintering
-
In mild climates (zones 9–11), Gerberas may overwinter outdoors if protected
