Maintenance Tips for Gypsophila paniculata 'White Festival'

To ensure that your Gypsophila paniculata 'White Festival' remains healthy and continues to produce its lovely white blooms, follow these essential care guidelines:

    • Pruning: Regular deadheading of spent flowers will encourage new blooms and maintain a tidy appearance. In late autumn or early spring, cut back the plant to ground level to promote fresh growth and prevent the development of woody stems.

    • Watering: Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, but avoid overwatering. Gypsophila prefers soil that is moist but well-drained. Ensure that the soil doesn’t become waterlogged to prevent root rot.

    • Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support vigorous growth and abundant flowering. A general-purpose plant food or one specifically designed for flowering perennials will work well.

    • Mulching: Use organic mulch around the base of the plant to help retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. This also helps to keep the plant's roots cool during hot weather.

    • Pest and Disease Control: While Gypsophila paniculata 'White Festival' is relatively pest-resistant, it can occasionally suffer from aphid infestations. Monitor the plant regularly and treat any pest issues with insecticidal soap. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent powdery mildew and other fungal diseases.
