Overview & Features

• Helichrysum italicum, commonly known as Curry Plant, is a compact, evergreen shrub valued for its aromatic silver foliage.

• Narrow, needle-like leaves release a strong curry-like scent when brushed.

• Produces small clusters of bright yellow flowers in summer.

• Typically grows to 40–60 cm in height and spread.

• Ideal for Mediterranean-style gardens, gravel beds, and coastal planting.

• Excellent for adding contrast among green and purple foliage plants.

• Drought tolerant once established.

• Attractive to pollinators during flowering.

This plant is prized mainly for its fragrant foliage and silvery colour rather than its flowers.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant in full sun for best growth and strongest foliage colour.

• Requires well-drained soil and does not tolerate winter waterlogging.

• Thrives in sandy, gritty, or poor soils.

• Improve heavy soils with grit or sharp sand before planting.

• Ideal for raised beds, gravel gardens, herb gardens, and containers.

• Choose a sheltered position in colder areas to protect from severe frost.

• Dig a hole slightly wider and the same depth as the pot.

• Position the crown level with the soil surface.

• Backfill, firm gently, and water thoroughly after planting.

• Space plants 40–50 cm apart to allow for bushy growth.

Helichrysum performs best in sunny, dry, and free-draining conditions.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots.

• Once established, plants are highly drought tolerant.

• Avoid overwatering, especially during winter months.

• Feed lightly in spring with a balanced fertiliser if soil is extremely poor.

• Avoid excessive feeding, as rich soil can lead to soft, weak growth.

• Flowering typically occurs in summer with small yellow blooms.

• Foliage remains the main ornamental feature throughout the year.

Full sun and minimal feeding encourage compact, aromatic growth.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a compact shape.

• Avoid cutting back into old woody stems, as regrowth may be limited.

• Remove any dead or damaged stems as needed.

• Protect from prolonged winter wet, which can cause root rot.

• Apply a light gravel mulch to improve drainage and keep the crown dry.

• May require winter protection in colder or very exposed areas.

• Generally low maintenance when grown in suitable conditions.

With full sun and excellent drainage, Helichrysum italicum will provide year-round silver foliage and aromatic interest in the garden.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
