About Helleborus ViV 'Maeva'

Helleborus ViV 'Maeva' is a beautiful evergreen perennial, admired for its elegant, long-lasting blooms and attractive glossy foliage. Flowering from late winter into early spring, it provides a welcome splash of colour when most other garden plants are still dormant. The graceful outward-facing flowers are held above a mound of rich green evergreen leaves, creating a striking display in shaded borders and containers.

As part of the premium ViV® Collection, 'Maeva' has been bred for exceptional flower production, compact growth and outstanding garden performance. Reaching approximately 40–50cm in height with a spread of 40–50cm, it is perfect for woodland gardens, shaded borders, patio pots and beneath deciduous trees. Its early blooms are also an important nectar source for bees and other pollinating insects emerging after winter.

Planting Guide

• Plant in partial shade or full shade.
• Will tolerate morning sun if the soil remains consistently moist.
• Prefers fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil.
• Improve the soil by adding compost or well-rotted organic matter before planting.
• Dig a planting hole twice the width of the root ball and the same depth.
• Carefully remove the plant from its pot and gently loosen the roots.
• Position the crown level with the surrounding soil surface.
• Backfill with soil, firm gently and water thoroughly.
• Apply a 5–8cm layer of organic mulch around the base, keeping it clear of the crown.
• Space plants approximately 40–50cm apart to allow room for healthy growth.

Care & Maintenance

Helleborus ViV 'Maeva' is a hardy, long-lived perennial that requires very little maintenance.

• Water regularly during the first growing season.
• Once established, water during prolonged dry spells.
• Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid waterlogging.
• Feed in early spring with a balanced slow-release fertiliser.
• Mulch annually with compost or leaf mould to improve soil fertility and conserve moisture.
• Remove weeds from around the base regularly.
• Avoid disturbing established plants, as they prefer to remain in the same position.
• Water container-grown plants more frequently during dry weather.
• Protect young plants from prolonged periods of severe frost if required.

Pruning

Very little pruning is required.

• Remove old or damaged leaves in late winter before flowering begins.
• Deadhead faded blooms if seed production is not required.
• Cut away any diseased or damaged foliage throughout the year.
• Remove old flower stems once flowering has finished.
• Allow fresh foliage to develop naturally during spring.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
