Hemerocallis Mix – A Colourful Collection of Easy-Care Daylilies
The Hemerocallis Mix, commonly known as a daylily mix, offers gardeners a vibrant and varied selection of these beloved perennials. With their strap-like foliage and tall flowering stems topped with bold, trumpet-shaped blooms, daylilies bring life and colour to the summer garden. This mix may include a range of colours – from cheerful yellows and fiery oranges to rich reds and soft pastels – ensuring a dazzling, ever-changing display throughout the flowering season.
Each flower lasts just a single day, but with numerous buds produced on each stem, the clumps bloom over several weeks, offering a reliable succession of colour. Hardy, low-maintenance, and long-lived, a Hemerocallis Mix is the perfect choice for borders, beds, and containers, adding vibrancy and structure with minimal effort.

Planting
-
When to plant: Best planted in spring or autumn, though container-grown plants can be planted any time of year.
-
Depth & spacing: Plant crowns just below soil level; space 45–60cm apart to allow for clump expansion.
-
Preparation: Work in compost or well-rotted manure before planting to improve fertility and structure.
-
Containers: Choose large pots with moisture-retentive compost to accommodate their clumping habit.
Watering & Feeding
-
Water regularly after planting to help establish roots.
-
Once established, they are relatively drought-tolerant but perform best with consistent moisture during flowering.
-
Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser, and apply a high-potash feed before flowering to encourage more blooms.
Pruning & Maintenance
-
Remove spent blooms daily to keep plants tidy and encourage more flowers.
-
Cut flowering stems down to the base once they are finished.
-
In late autumn, cut back old foliage to ground level; fresh growth will return in spring.
-
Divide clumps every 4–5 years to rejuvenate plants and prevent overcrowding.
Protection
-
Fully hardy, requiring no winter protection.
-
Virtually pest- and disease-free, though slugs may attack young shoots in spring.
-
Adaptable to a wide range of conditions and very reliable once established.
