Description and Characteristics

Heuchera ‘Cherry Cola’ is a compact, evergreen perennial known for its warm, reddish-bronze foliage and rich, cherry-toned flower spikes. It is especially valued for colour-themed borders, containers, and small-space gardens, where its consistent colour and neat form create strong year-round appeal.

The foliage forms a tidy mound of small to medium-sized, ruffled leaves in shades of burnished red, copper, and cola-brown, which intensify in cooler months. The leaf colour remains stable through the seasons, making it a reliable plant for texture and contrast.

From late spring to early summer, the plant produces bright cherry-red flower spikes on slender stems, adding height and a splash of vibrant colour. These blooms are attractive to bees and pollinators, adding wildlife value to its aesthetic charm.

Heuchera ‘Cherry Cola’ typically grows to 20–25 cm tall and 30–35 cm wide, with flower stems rising to 40–50 cm, making it ideal for edging, containers, and underplanting.

Growing Conditions and Maintenance

Heuchera ‘Cherry Cola’ is low-maintenance and resilient, thriving in partial shade and moist, well-drained soils. It is particularly suited to small gardens, raised beds, and decorative pots.

• Light Requirements:

  • Prefers partial shade, especially in hot climates

  • Tolerates morning sun or filtered light

  • In cooler climates, may tolerate more direct sun if soil stays moist

• Soil Preferences:

  • Requires well-drained, humus-rich soil

  • Performs best in neutral to slightly acidic soil

  • Add grit or compost to improve drainage in heavy or clay soils

• Watering Needs:

  • Water regularly during the establishment period

  • Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged

  • In containers, check more frequently, especially in warm weather

• Feeding:

  • Apply a slow-release, balanced fertiliser in early spring

  • Use a liquid fertiliser monthly for potted plants during the growing season

  • Trim back old or damaged leaves in early spring

  • Deadhead flower stems to encourage further blooming and a tidy look

  • Divide clumps every 3–4 years in spring or autumn to refresh the plant

  • Hardy in Zones 4–9 (RHS H5–H6)

  • Evergreen in mild climates; semi-evergreen in colder regions

  • Mulch around the base in autumn to protect the crown during winter

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
