• Growth Habit: Neat, rounded habit, typically reaching 40–60 cm in height and width—ideal for small gardens and container displays.

• Flowers: Large mophead clusters of pure white florets, often with a fresh green flush when opening. As blooms mature, they may develop subtle lime or soft cream tones.

Planting Conditions and Ideal Location

• Light Requirements: Prefers partial shade; tolerates morning sun but should be protected from hot afternoon sun to avoid leaf scorch.

• Soil Preferences: Moist, fertile, humus-rich soil that drains well.

• pH Range: Slightly acidic to neutral (pH 5.5–7.0). In this variety, flower colour remains white regardless of soil pH.

• Moisture Needs: Requires consistently moist soil—especially during summer flowering periods; avoid drought stress.

• Planting Time: Best planted in spring or early autumn to allow roots to establish before extremes of heat or cold.

• Spacing: Space plants 40–50 cm apart for compact growth or group planting.

• Shelter Needs: Best grown in a sheltered position, protected from strong winds and late frosts that may damage flower buds.

• Companion Planting: Works well alongside hostas, ferns, astilbes, heucheras, and other shade-loving perennials.

• Container Growing: Perfect for pots—use a quality loam-based compost with added organic matter and ensure good drainage.

Routine Care, Feeding, and Seasonal Maintenance

• Watering:

  • Water deeply 1–2 times weekly in dry weather.

  • Container plants may need more frequent watering during hot spells.

• Feeding:

  • Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring to promote healthy growth and prolific flowering.

  • Supplement with a liquid high-potash feed every 4–6 weeks in summer.

• Pruning:

  • In spring, remove only spent flower heads by cutting back to the first pair of strong buds.

  • Remove any dead or weak stems at the base.

• Mulching: Apply a 5–8 cm mulch layer of compost or well-rotted manure in spring to conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds.

• Pest and Disease Resistance: Generally healthy; may occasionally be affected by aphids or powdery mildew—treat promptly and ensure good airflow.

• Winter Care: Fully hardy, but in very cold regions, mulch heavily around the base and consider fleece protection for buds in severe frost.

• Weed Control: Keep the area around the plant free of weeds to reduce competition for water and nutrients.

• Longevity: With the right care, ‘Little XS White’ will flower reliably and maintain its compact beauty for many years.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
