About Hydrangea 'Runaway Bride'®

Hydrangea 'Runaway Bride'® is an award-winning deciduous shrub celebrated for its elegant cascading habit and abundance of pure white lacecap flowers. Unlike traditional hydrangeas that flower mainly at the tips of their stems, 'Runaway Bride'® produces blooms from almost every leaf node, creating a spectacular waterfall of flowers throughout the summer.

Growing to approximately 80–120cm tall with a spread of 100–120cm, this compact variety is ideal for borders, patio containers, raised beds and hanging over walls or planters. The flowers open white with soft pink blushes as they mature, while the rich green foliage provides an attractive backdrop throughout the growing season. It is also highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects.

Planting Guide

• Plant in full sun or partial shade.
• Morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal in warmer areas.
• Prefers fertile, humus-rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil.
• Suitable for neutral, slightly acidic or slightly alkaline soils.
• Improve the soil with compost or well-rotted organic matter before planting.
• Dig a planting hole twice the width of the root ball and the same depth.
• Carefully remove the plant from its container and gently loosen any compacted roots.
• Position the root ball level with the surrounding soil.
• Backfill with soil, firm gently and water thoroughly.
• Apply a 5–8cm layer of organic mulch around the base, keeping it away from the main stem.
• Space plants approximately 1–1.2 metres apart to allow for mature growth.

Hydrangea 'Runaway Bride'® is easy to grow and rewards gardeners with months of elegant blooms.

• Water regularly during the first growing season.
• Keep the soil consistently moist, particularly during warm, dry weather.
• Avoid allowing the soil to dry out completely.
• Feed in early spring with a balanced slow-release fertiliser.
• Apply a second light feed in early summer to encourage healthy growth and flowering.
• Refresh mulch each spring to retain moisture and improve soil quality.
• Remove weeds from around the base regularly.
• Water container-grown plants more frequently during summer.
• Protect young plants from severe frost during their first winter if necessary.

Pruning

Hydrangea 'Runaway Bride'® requires very little pruning.

• Flowers are produced on old wood, so avoid hard pruning.
• Remove faded flower heads in late winter or early spring.
• Cut out any dead, damaged or weak stems.
• Lightly shape the plant after flowering if required.
• Avoid removing healthy stems, as these will produce next year's flowers.
• Remove older stems every few years if rejuvenation is needed.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
