Description and Characteristics

Leucanthemum 'Madonna' is a compact, floriferous Shasta Daisy variety known for its classic white daisy blooms with sunny yellow centres and a neat, rounded habit. Bred for improved performance and form, 'Madonna' offers early and long-lasting flowering, making it a top choice for small gardens, containers, and mass displays.

It produces profuse blooms from late spring into late summer, with single white petals radiating from a prominent golden eye. The clean, bushy growth habit reaches only 25–30 cm in height and 30–40 cm in spread, ideal for front-of-border use, edging, or compact beds and pots.

‘Madonna’ is part of a newer generation of Leucanthemum cultivars bred for uniformity, compactness, and repeat flowering. It performs reliably in sunny positions with good drainage and is well-loved by pollinators.

Growing Conditions and Maintenance

Leucanthemum 'Madonna' is easy to grow and maintain, thriving in sunny spots with well-drained soil. It’s ideal for low-maintenance planting schemes and performs well in both ground and container settings.

• Light Requirements:

  • Prefers full sun for best flowering

  • Tolerates light shade, but blooms may be reduced

• Soil Preferences:

  • Best in moderately fertile, well-drained soil

  • Tolerates loamy, chalky, or sandy soil

  • Avoid overly wet or heavy clay conditions

• Watering Needs:

  • Water regularly while establishing

  • Once mature, moderately drought-tolerant

  • Ensure good drainage, especially in containers

• Feeding:

  • Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring

  • Top-dress with compost annually for improved soil structure

• Deadheading and Pruning:

  • Deadhead spent flowers to prolong bloom period

  • Cut stems back in autumn or early spring to tidy up and encourage new growth

  • Divide clumps every 2–3 years in early spring to rejuvenate

• Winter Care:

  • Hardy in Zones 5–9 (RHS H5)

  • No special protection needed in well-drained soil

  • Mulch lightly in late autumn in colder regions for extra root insulation

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
