Description and Characteristics

Leucanthemum 'Shortstop', commonly known as a Dwarf Shasta Daisy, is a compact, clump-forming perennial that delivers classic white daisy blooms on a tidy, well-behaved plant. It is part of the Leucanthemum superbum group and was bred for improved performance in smaller spaces, making it ideal for containers, edging, and small gardens.

The plant produces bright white, single daisy flowers with bold yellow centres, rising just above a low mound of dark green foliage. Its compact size—typically 25–35 cm in height and spread—makes it perfect for front-of-border plantings and mass displays, while its long blooming period from early summer to late summer adds dependable, cheerful colour.

Unlike taller daisies that may need staking, ‘Shortstop’ maintains a sturdy, upright habit and requires minimal maintenance. Its neat size and strong stems make it a great candidate for patio containers, urban gardens, and pollinator-friendly beds.

Growing Conditions and Maintenance

Leucanthemum 'Shortstop' is easy to grow, thriving in sunny locations with well-drained soil. It is a hardy and long-lived perennial that offers reliable flowering with simple care.

• Light Requirements:

  • Prefers full sun for best flower production

  • Tolerates light shade, though flowering may be reduced

• Soil Preferences:

  • Requires moist but well-drained soil

  • Performs well in loamy, sandy, or chalky soils

  • Avoid heavy or waterlogged conditions to prevent crown rot

• Watering Needs:

  • Water regularly during the establishment period

  • Once established, moderately drought-tolerant, but flowers best with consistent moisture

  • In containers, water more frequently in dry periods

• Feeding:

  • Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring

  • A second light feeding in midsummer can support extended bloom

• Deadheading and Pruning:

  • Deadhead regularly to encourage continuous flowering

  • Cut back to the base in autumn or early spring

  • Divide every 2–3 years to maintain vigour

• Winter Care:

  • Hardy in Zones 4–9 (RHS H7)

  • No special protection needed in most regions

  • Ensure good drainage during winter to prevent root rot

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
