• Paeonia Itoh ‘Julia Rose’ is a stunning intersectional (Itoh) peony, combining the strength of tree peonies with the reliability of herbaceous types.

• Produces large, semi-double blooms that open cherry-red and gradually fade through apricot to soft peach-yellow.

• Each plant can display multiple flower colours at once due to the changing tones.

• Lightly fragrant flowers appear in late spring to early summer.

• Strong stems hold blooms well above attractive, deeply divided green foliage.

• Typically grows to 70–90 cm in height and spread.

• Ideal for mixed borders, feature planting, and large containers.

• Excellent as a cut flower.

This variety is prized for its unique colour transformation and sturdy, upright growth.

Planting & Positioning

• Plant in full sun for the best flowering performance.

• Tolerates light partial shade, though flowering may be reduced.

• Prefers fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter.

• Avoid heavy, waterlogged soils, especially in winter.

• Improve soil with compost or well-rotted manure before planting.

• Plant with the crown buds around 3–5 cm below the soil surface.

• Planting too deeply may reduce flowering.

• Choose a sheltered position protected from strong winds.

• Space plants 80–100 cm apart to allow for mature growth.

Itoh peonies benefit from being left undisturbed once established.

Watering, Feeding & Flowering

• Water regularly during the first growing season to establish strong roots.

• Keep soil evenly moist during active growth and flowering.

• Avoid waterlogging, particularly in winter.

• Feed in early spring with a balanced fertiliser to support strong stems and blooms.

• Apply a mulch of compost in spring, keeping it clear of the crown.

• Flowering typically occurs in late spring to early summer.

• Remove spent blooms to maintain a tidy appearance and direct energy back into the plant.

Consistent moisture and fertile soil encourage larger, longer-lasting blooms.

Pruning, Maintenance & General Care

• Deadhead flowers after blooming to prevent seed formation.

• Allow foliage to remain through summer to build strength for the following year.

• Cut back stems to ground level in autumn once foliage dies back.

• Itoh peonies rarely require staking due to their strong stems.

• Divide only if necessary in autumn, as plants prefer minimal disturbance.

• Apply mulch annually to improve soil fertility and structure.

• Long-lived and low maintenance once established.

The in-Store delivery charge will vary compared with online, in-store delivery charge is done on a case by case basis.

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.
 

Click & Collect

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
