Description and Characteristics

Penstemon ‘Polaris Rose’ is a compact and floriferous perennial cultivar from the Polaris series, bred for uniformity, dense branching, and abundant early blooms. This charming variety produces masses of rose-pink tubular flowers with soft white throats, held on upright stems above tidy, dark green foliage.

It has a naturally neat, bushy habit, typically reaching 30–45 cm tall and 25–35 cm wide, making it especially suited for containers, borders, small gardens, and urban plantings. The free-flowering nature of ‘Polaris Rose’ ensures colour from late spring right through to early autumn, especially when regularly deadheaded.

Perfect for pollinator gardens and mixed summer displays, its compact size and vibrant colouring make it a valuable plant for repetitive massing, seasonal colour schemes, or front-of-border design.

Growing Conditions and Maintenance

Penstemon ‘Polaris Rose’ is low-maintenance and thrives in sunny, well-drained spots. It appreciates regular deadheading and moderate feeding to keep it blooming vigorously throughout the season.

• Light Requirements:

  • Prefers full sun, but will tolerate light shade

  • Best flowering and growth in at least 6 hours of direct sunlight

• Soil Preferences:

  • Prefers moderately fertile, well-drained soil

  • Tolerates a range of soil types including loamy, sandy, or chalky

  • Avoid heavy or waterlogged conditions

• Watering Needs:

  • Water to establish during the first season

  • Once established, fairly drought-tolerant

  • In containers, water when the surface starts to dry, especially in hot weather

• Feeding:

  • Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser

  • For containers, apply a liquid feed every 2–3 weeks through summer

• Deadheading and Pruning:

  • Deadhead spent blooms regularly to prolong flowering

  • Lightly trim in mid-summer if stems become leggy

  • In early spring, cut back to just above the base once new shoots appear

• Winter Care:

  • Hardy in most UK and Irish climates (RHS H4, approx. -5°C to -10°C)

  • Apply mulch in late autumn in colder areas to protect roots

  • In very wet soils, consider lifting or growing in containers

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
