Description and Characteristics

Primula japonica 'Miller’s Crimson' is a beautiful candelabra-style primula prized for its deep crimson-red flowers, tiered flower arrangement, and preference for moist, shaded environments. This deciduous perennial is native to Japan and thrives in the damp, rich soils of woodland and streamside gardens, where its elegant blooms can naturalise to create impressive drifts.

Flowering from late spring to early summer (May–June), 'Miller’s Crimson' sends up tall, slender stems bearing whorls of vibrant, rich red blooms in distinct layers or tiers, rising above a rosette of crinkled green foliage. The strong vertical structure makes it a striking feature when planted in groups.

Reaching a mature height of 45–60 cm with a spread of 30–45 cm, this plant is an ideal choice for bog gardens, pond margins, or shady borders. Over time, it may gently self-seed under suitable conditions, forming large, natural-looking colonies that return reliably each year.

Primula japonica 'Miller’s Crimson' is a low-maintenance perennial when given moist, humus-rich soil and dappled shade. It prefers consistent moisture and benefits from a cool root run, making it ideal for naturally damp areas.

  • Requires moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil

• Winter Care:

  • Hardy in Zones 4–8 (RHS H7)

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
