Overview of Salvia Varieties
Salvia, commonly referred to as sage, encompasses a wide range of species and hybrids, including annuals, biennials, and perennials. Popular varieties include Salvia nemorosa, Salvia greggii, Salvia guaranitica, and Salvia microphylla, each offering a unique growth habit, flower colour, and foliage texture. Salvias are prized for their vibrant blooms, long flowering period, and ability to attract pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
Flower colours range from rich purples and deep blues to vivid reds, pinks, and whites. Most varieties are drought-tolerant once established and thrive in sunny, free-draining conditions.

Fertilising:
-
Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring to support initial growth.

Over-fertilising can lead to excessive foliage at the expense of flowers.
-
Pruning, Blooming & General Maintenance

Pruning Practices:

Cut back hard in late autumn or early spring depending on the species.

Good airflow reduces the risk of powdery mildew or fungal leaf spots.
