Salvia microphylla ‘Apex White’ is a striking woody perennial or sub-shrub renowned for its pure white flowers and long flowering period. Part of the Salvia microphylla (or Baby Sage) group, it offers aromatic foliage, continuous blooms, and excellent garden versatility. ‘Apex White’ stands out for its crisp floral display, which brings brightness and elegance to borders and containers throughout the summer months.

The plant features glossy, mid-green leaves with a minty aroma and tall, slender stems that carry masses of white, tubular flowers. Blooming heavily from late spring until the first frosts, it provides nectar for bees, butterflies, and hoverflies, making it a valuable addition to pollinator-friendly gardens.

Typically reaching 80–100 cm in height and up to 70 cm in spread, 'Apex White' is well-suited to mixed borders, Mediterranean-style plantings, and containers in sunny locations.

Growing Conditions and Maintenance

Salvia microphylla ‘Apex White’ is an easy-care, drought-tolerant variety once established. It performs best in sunny, well-drained locations and requires only basic pruning and occasional feeding.

  • Thrives in full sun

  • Can tolerate light shade, though flowering may be reduced

• Soil Preferences:

  • Prefers light, free-draining soil

  • Tolerant of chalk, loam, or sandy soils

  • Avoid heavy, poorly drained soil

• Watering:

  • Water regularly during establishment

  • Once established, water only during prolonged dry periods

  • In containers, ensure good drainage and consistent watering

• Feeding:

  • Lightly feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser

  • Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can reduce flowering

• Pruning and Maintenance:

  • Cut back by one-third in early spring to encourage fresh growth

  • Deadhead spent blooms regularly to prolong flowering

  • Optional light trim in midsummer to maintain shape

‘Apex White’ is prized for its clean, bright colour and graceful form, offering visual contrast and elegance in garden compositions. Its adaptability makes it suitable for a wide range of styles.

• Flowering Period:

  • Especially striking when paired with deep blues, purples, or silver foliage

• Winter Care:

  • Hardy in milder UK and Irish regions (RHS H4)

  • In colder areas, mulch in autumn and avoid cutting back until spring

Live Plants Delivery

Our live plants are packed with care and diligence by our staff, our horticulturists review each plant before despatch to ensure quality is maintained.
Live Plant delivery charges are not calculated on weight but on the space required per package to ensure safe delivery, so delivery charges may vary as some plants require more space than others when packed.
All live plants are despatched within 3-5 working days where possible, our couriers aim to deliver within 48 hours of despatch from our Garden Centre to allow the plant to arrive in healthy condition.

Can’t wait for delivery? Why not try our FREE Click & Collect service? Simply make your purchase online and collect it from our store located in Croagh Co. Limerick. Our staff will contact you by phone when your order is ready for collection (Please allow 24 hours minimum). When collecting your item, call the store on 069-64084. We will then load into your car as required. This service is available in-store 9am – 6pm Monday – Saturday (No collections on Sundays)
