Viburnum tinus 'Eve Price' – 30–40cm – Planting & Care Guide

About Viburnum tinus 'Eve Price'

Viburnum tinus 'Eve Price' is a dependable evergreen flowering shrub valued for its glossy dark green foliage, attractive winter flower buds and long-lasting clusters of white to pale pink flowers.

From autumn onwards, rounded clusters of deep pink flower buds develop above the evergreen foliage. These gradually open into small white flowers, often flushed with pink, from late winter through spring. The flowers are followed by attractive metallic blue-black berries when pollination is successful.

'Eve Price' forms a dense, rounded shrub, typically reaching around 1.5–2m tall and wide when mature. The supplied plants are approximately 30–40cm tall, making them suitable for establishing hedges, borders or individual specimens.

Planting Guide

• Plant in full sun or partial shade.
• Tolerates a range of positions and is particularly useful in coastal gardens.
• Prefers fertile, moist but well-drained soil.
• Tolerates clay, loam and sandy soils provided drainage is adequate.
• Improve poor soil with compost or well-rotted organic matter before planting.
• Dig a hole approximately twice the width of the root ball.
• Plant at the same depth as it was growing in its container.
• Backfill, firm gently and water thoroughly.
• Apply an organic mulch around the base while keeping it away from the main stems.
• Water regularly during the first growing season.

Care & Maintenance

Viburnum tinus 'Eve Price' is a tough, low-maintenance shrub once established.

• Water regularly during the first year after planting.
• Established plants generally require watering only during prolonged dry periods.
• Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring if required.
• Mulch annually with compost or well-rotted organic matter.
• Keep newly planted shrubs free from competing weeds.
• Evergreen foliage can benefit from watering during unusually prolonged dry spells.

Pruning

Little pruning is normally required.

• Prune after flowering in spring if necessary.
• Remove dead, damaged or crossing branches.
• Lightly trim plants to maintain their desired shape and size.
• When grown as a hedge, trim after the main flowering period.
• Avoid heavy pruning late in the year, as this can remove developing flower buds.
• Older, overgrown plants can tolerate renovation pruning if necessary.
